The refurbishment to the science block at the Somerset College is a further step in an ongoing commitment by the College to provide the latest and best facilities for the teachers and students.
The science block is an existing two storey concrete structure with a timber trussed roof and terracotta roof tiles. The scope of work for this contract included the demolition of the existing laboratories and preparation room fit out on the ground floor followed by a complete new fit out to a new floor plan. The new fit out comprises of an altered wall layout, new work benches, epoxy floor finishes throughout, upgraded electrical, fire, hydraulic, mechanical and gas services as well as the installation of a dumb waiter servicing the two levels. A minor amount of remedial work is required on the upper floor as a result of the dumb waiter installation.
The window and door arrangement has also been altered which required the making good of areas of sandstone to marry in with the existing finishes scheme.
The contract commenced on 22 October 2011 and work was completed in time for the start of the 2012 school year.
