The Evans Head Aquatic Centre has been the dream of the Evans Head/ Woodburn Pool Committee for the past 17 years. The project was realised after the Richmond Valley Council applied for and received a grant under the Federal Government Economic Stimulus Plan to supplement the monies raised by the pool committee to a total project value of just under $5M.
The project occupies a Greenfield site on the corner of Ash and Woodburn Streets Evans Head and is adjacent to the Council’s playing fields. The site is located in close proximity to the local schools, the CBD and residential areas and covers an area of 1 hectare.
Construction started in October 2009. The Aquatic Centre consists of a 25m 8 lane swimming pool built to strict FINA regulations, a leisure pool complete with interactive features, a gymnasium, kiosk, male, female & PWD amenities, first aid room, offices, plant room areas as well as a 57 space car park. The main pool has a roof and the majority of the concrete concourse and leisure pool area is covered by shade sails affording protection from the elements to all patrons. Generous landscaped areas around the pools and a dual electric BBQ have made the Centre into a very family and group friendly venue.
