Serene on Tweed - Practical Completion

Royal Palms - Practical Completion

Glenzeil has just completed a new lobby refurbishment for the Body Corporate of Royal Palm Resort, Palm Beach. Works involved demolition of the existing reception and basement lift lobbies to allow the construction of the new layout designed by Alan Griffith Architects.

The design was to open up the reception lobby so it had a flow through effect to the new external terrace that was being built in conjunction with the lobby. The external terrace included a tiled ramp & stair that joined into the existing pool area with a feature handrail design by Tony Dowthwaite Lighting incorporating recessed lights into the balustrade top rail.

Key features to the new design are green glass external facades, a new reception airlock to reduce wind draft through the lobby, laser cut veneer palm leaf feature panels, stone reception counter, stack away reception glass security panels, a new entry colour scheme under the car park porte cochere and a new sunken lounge.

Well done to the Glenzeil project team of Matt Skrinis, Neil Brindley and Matt Laing on delivering this project to the satisfaction of the building committee.

Aquinas College - Practical Completion

Glenzeil Pty Ltd was awarded the Stage 2 works at Aquinas College at the start of April 2013. The project was managed by Davis Langdon and funding provided by The Corporation of the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane.

New works located on the Eastern side of the College consisted of a Multipurpose Sports Facility, Hospitality Centre and Suspended Linkway.

Together with 2 x basketball courts, 2 x netball courts and 4 x volleyball courts to cater for school sports, the new Multipurpose Sports Facility has been designed to allow for school presentations in performing arts in a space that can occupy school numbers. Practical Completion for this stage of works was granted on the 6th December 2013.

After demolishing the school’s existing hospitality building, the new hospitality centre has been designed for the school’s expansion in 2015. The centre includes a 3 story classroom building, Textiles and Home Management Room and a large size Hospitality Kitchen and Home Economics Rooms.  Key design features include high level soffits supported by oblique steel columns, perforated feature sun screens to the Western Elevation, State of the art commercial kitchen and an extensive spread of colour throughout the centre externally and internally that brightens up spaces and rooms.

After delays due to unfavourable  ground conditions and inclement weather causing almost 4 weeks in lost time, the project was able to be completed on programme and in time for the start of the 2014 school term. Practical Completion was achieved on the 29th January 2014. This target was achieved with great assistance and cooperation form Maryanne Finder and Jan McKenzie from the college and Chris Gill from Davis Langdon, Chris Collier from Lightwave Architecture and the many consultants, contractors and suppliers.

Congratulations to the Glenzeil project team of Brian Gabriel, Matt Skrinis, Benn Kitto, Justin Weale, Jason Ford and Lauren Blair.

Serene Living

The six storey Serene Living Australia project at Tweed Heads has reached the roof with the final slab pour programmed for Thursday 24th October. The Site Management team are paying particular attention to detail on this slab as it will be a 1300m2 roof top oasis complete with turfed and garden areas, pergolas, BBQ’s and expansive paved pathways. The two layer waterproofing system has been designed with longevity and flexibility in mind and the installation process is critical given the interfacing of all the different finishes.

Internal trades are progressing well with wall framing underway and external glazing on level 3, services rough in and wall sheeting on level 2 and plaster setting on level 1. In the Ground floor units, joinery, tiling and painting are well advanced and the display unit has been completed and handed to the Client for use with their marketing campaign.
Externally the façade is a block veneer with a rendered then painted finish. Blocklayers are working their way up the building and are currently nearing the level 3 floor slab. Renderers are starting on site next week and will follow the blocklayers and the painting will be finished in conjunction with the removal of the perimeter scaffold.

The project is programmed for completion in April 2014.

Pure Kirra

KIRRA will soon boast another skyscraper, as construction starts on the $40 million Pure Kirra residential apartments. Work on the 14-storey building on the corner of Haig Street and Musgrave Street is now well and truly underway.

The high-rise will feature 33 units of 131sqm, with two bedrooms and a study in each.
There will also be a retail floor on the bottom level, featuring restaurants, cafes and other traders. Construction will take approx. 1 year.

Glenzeil completed the $50 million Nirvana by the Sea skyscraper in 2009 and knew there would be some issues with water and sand at the site, but is confident development would go smoothly.

Developer, Michael Pikos said the southern Gold Coast was back on the map as a prime spot to live and was doing well economically. "I'm happy to see a job happening down the coast," he said. Mr Pikos said all apartments would have 180 degree views of both the beach and the hinterland and that sales were going well.

Aquinas College

Glenzeil has commenced works onsite at Aquinas College, Ashmore and is pleased to be involved in the redevelopment of the school as it expands for the future.

With the demolition complete, focus is now on delivering the new Covered Sports Facility which is an outdoor/indoor multipurpose building comprising of 2 x basketball courts, 2 x netball courts, and 4 x volleyball courts.

Whilst constructing the Covered Sports Facility works will then start on the new Hospitality Centre involving 3 new buildings, which will give the school a brand new commercial hospitality kitchen, home economics room, textiles room, and offices that will tie in with the existing school buildings by walkways.

Works are currently scheduled for completion mid December 2013.

Salvation Army Shed

Glenzeil has been proud to be involved in the recent construction of a man shed at the Salvation Army’s Fairhaven Recovery Centre at Eagle Heights in the Gold Coast Hinterland. In collaboration with Adco Constructions and The Sunland Group, Glenzeil donated products and services to construct a 7m x 6m garage style shed that will be used by the management of the Centre to house woodworking equipment, which until now, has been under-utilised.
Major Russell Grice, Manager of the Fairhaven Centre, was instrumental in the planning of the shed and believes it will provide an outlet for many individuals passing through the facility.
